BiOptix, a privately held company commercializing new technologies for rapid, sensitive, label-free detection of biomarkers, announced today appointment of Richard Whitcomb as President and COO. "Rick’s background in operations, services, and finance will strengthen our already talented leadership team" said Dr Misha Plam, CEO and Founder of BiOptix and added: “His deep knowledge of instrumentation and proven track record of developing and executing a business plan will help take BiOptix to the next level of success” “BiOptix is in a very strong position in terms of technology, market opportunity, and the leadership team. I’m very honored and excited to be joining the team, and have high confidence that we will be successful” said Rick Whitcomb. Prior to joining BiOptix Rick Whitcomb was Senior Manager of the On Site Services business for Agilent Technologies’ Electronic Measurement Group. His background also includes several years of Corporate Development experience for Agilent and Hewlett-Packard Co., and he was formerly Operational CFO for the Communications Network Solutions business unit at Agilent. Rick brings substantial international experience, having spent five years living and working in Europe for Agilent and Hewlett-Packard Co.. During his career, he has worked with scientists in Agilent Labs and HP Labs to move promising new technologies from the lab into commercialization, and ultimately into the hands of customers. Backgrounder BiOptix, formerly AlphaSniffer, established in 2003, is developing a proprietary technology for real-time, sensitive, label-free detection of medically and commercially important molecules such as DNA, proteins, toxins, contaminants and other compounds. Applications using this broad technology platform include real-time detection instruments for markets such as medical research, personalized medicine and diagnostics, pharmaceutical process control, defense and homeland security, and numerous other industrial demands. The core technology, known as SPR-CPI, was invented at AlphaSniffer by Dr. John Hall, 2005 Physics Nobel Prize Laureate, Slava Petropavlovskikh, and Dr. Oyvind Nilsen. Having established proof of principle through development of several functional prototypes and surface chemistries, the company is now extending the capabilities of its instruments by engineering a medium density array system. |
